The only crime to have rocked the Vatican in recent years was the alleged implication of three of the Vatican Bank's officials in the Italian Banco Ambrosiano's fraudulent bankruptcy. Italy's Supreme Court ruled that Vatican affairs were beyond its jurisdiction.
